New York, NY (January 27, 2017) – Acclaimed artist and GRAMMY®-nominated, multi-platinum producer/songwriter Ricky Reed has released his new solo song “Be the 1” today on Epic Records. “Be the 1,” which premieredonIdolator, dives into a soulful groove accented by deep drums, buoyant synths and Ricky’s falsetto and showcases his flair for an indelible melody. “Be the 1,” from Ricky’s forthcoming album due out later this year, continues to peel back the layers of his solo artistry. As one of the music industry’s hottest and most sought-after producers/songwriters, Ricky has been helping other artists tell their stories. Now having found the love of his life, standing on the precipice of fatherhood, and brimming with a refreshed creative energy, he is ready to start telling his own story.

 

The recent release of his autobiographical song “Express Myself” (HERE) ushered in a more vulnerable side of Ricky and marked his return to his artist roots for the first time since 2013 after the success of Wallpaper. and a huge year dominating multiple charts and radio formats as executive producer and songwriter for Meghan Trainor, twenty one pilots, Phantogram, Fitz and the Tantrums, Lizzo, Pussy Riot, D.R.A.M., DJ Snake, Dej Loaf and more, culminating in a 2017 GRAMMY® nomination for Producer of the Year. Inspired by his personal journey from artist to producer and back again, “Express Myself” found him reflecting on the importance of living one’s truth in the face of obstacles and doubt. The song made an immediate splash with a feature on Spotify’s New Music Friday while Entertainment Weekly recommended it on their Fall playlist, Uproxx proclaimed it, “Insanely catchy,” and Idolator wrote, “This feels more like a rebirth than a resumption.”

 

As the force behind an impressive list of chart-topping songs, Ricky executive produced and co-wrote Meghan Trainor’s album Thank You (including smash singles “NO” and “Me Too”) and Phantogram’s album Three (including hit lead single“You Don’t Get Me High Anymore”). He helmed eight songs on twenty one pilots’ platinum album Blurryface, including the inescapable #1 smash “Ride,” as well as Fitz and the Tantrums’ “Handclap,” Pitbull’s “Fireball,”and Fifth Harmony’s “Bo$$” and Jason Derulo’s “Talk Dirty” and his forthcoming single “Swa Lah” featuring Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign. His fresh approach to pop and diverse production projects have garnered praise from the likes of Mashable, EW, Vulture, SPIN, People, The Fader and more. Ricky also founded his own label Nice Life Recording Company, which recently released Pussy Riot’s xxx EP in conjunction with Dave Sitek’s Federal Prism and Big Deal Music as well as Lizzo’s Coconut Oil EP under Atlantic Records.
