Iconic ‘Last Chance Gas Station’ of Texas Chainsaw Massacre to be resurrected as a BBQ Joint

Texas barbeque is found primarily in central Texas and is distinguished by its use of beef brisket and indirect smoking method.  Although many barbeque ‘joint’s’ boast about their homemade sauces as well, the focus is truly on the meat.
Many folks have grown up on family recipes varying in method and taste, yearning to open and earn their place in Texas’s history of fained upon barbeque joints.  So it was no surprise to learn of yet another establishment to join the ranks this summer in Bastrop County, Texas.  However, the story behind the place will make your skin crawl.
According to KXAN, an Ohio businessman, Roy Rose, first saw the movie “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” on his tenth birthday and fell in love.  Thirty years later, on his birthday, he purchased the well known Last Chance Gas Station from the movie, moved to Texas and is restoring it to its original state to open as “We Slaughter Barbecue”.   For the cult classic fans, you will remember W. E. Slaughter as one of the Slaughter family members from the “Next Generation”.
“We’re going to build a horror barbecue resort,” Rose explained. “We’re going to put cabins in the back for all the fans who want to come and stay the night.” The redesigned gas station will also include an outdoor stage for musical acts and a shop filled with scary movie memorabilia.

Rose sought out a partner that could bring more than just knowledge to the project.  Ari Lehman, the original Jason Voorhees in “Friday the 13th”, is Rose’s partner in the project.

“Perhaps the only fans more dedicated than ‘Friday the 13th’ fans are ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ fans,” Lehman said.

Many fans already make the road trip to the Last Chance Gas Station to see a part of Americana movie history.  Now they will have more reasons to come eat, stay and play.

According to Rose’s Facebook page, the resort is expected to open sometime in July of 2016, with Ed Neal who played Nubbins Sawyer, the hitch hiker in the original movie, scheduled to appear.
